Detailed Spam Management

When reviewing the Detailed Spam Management tab, you will find 4 categories of information:

Trash: Contains those emails which are blocked based on public spammer blacklists and your Spammers list created in the program when you click on Block.

Likely Spam: Those emails that match our filters and are therefore likely spam, however, since the filters are based on words and phrases it is possible to find good email in this category.

Likely Good: Those emails that do not match any of the filters in the program and are likely good.  Emails found in this category which are actually spam, should be submitted to us for addition to our filters by clicking Report As Spam.

Passed: Those emails that are on your Friends List and are therefore passed automatically to your email client.

Vocabulary

Email client: email programs such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Mozilla

Blacklist: a list of known bad email spammers, Spammers

Whitelist: a list of known good email senders, Friends

Registration Errors

If you receive an error during registration, it is most likely related to your firewall or anti-virus software.  Make sure SpamSafe is listed as an Approved or Allowed program in your security programs.  Then attempt the registration again.

Registration

Purchase includes program and filter updates, unlimited online program support and installation on up to 5 computers.

Mail accounts not listed

This may be caused by one of several reasons:

·         All email accounts are already setup in SpamSafe

·         Your mail program may not be properly registered in the standard location on your computer

·         Your mail program may not be automatically supported by SpamSafe

To manually setup an email account:

1. Go to Setup > Add Email Account

2. Choose the program type of account (webmail or POP3/IMAP)

3. Complete the Incoming Mail Server information and then click Next

4. The Outgoing Mail Server information does not need to be completed unless you intent to send email from SpamSafe.  Please note, SpamSafe is not intended to replace your email program and there is no Sent folder for any email sent from the program.

5. On the Outgoing Mail Server you will need to complete the Email address for the account, then click Next and Finish.

6. You will now need to make the following changes in your email program:

a. Change the Incoming Mail Server to "localhost"

b. Under Username, add an "!" followed by the Incoming Mail Server information to the end of your username.  Ex. myaccount!mail.server.com

Mail disappears after clicking Good

This may be caused by your email program settings being reset to their "normal" pre-SpamSafe settings.  Please open your email program and verify the settings are as follows in Tools > Email Accounts:

Incoming Mail Server: localhost

Username: [your username]![your incoming mail server] (Example: myaccount!mail.server.com)

This occurs when SpamSafe and your email program are not communicating.  This is most typically caused by improper settings or a firewall or antivirus program interfering with communications.

SpamSafe freezes when I select a message

Wait a minute. It might seem frozen, but is simply taking longer than expected. This can occur if the message has a large attachment not recognized by SpamSafe.  Allow extra time.  If the problem persists, contact our Customer Service Team.

I cannot send mail from my mail program.
When an account is added to SpamSafe certain settings in your email program are changed to allow communication with SpamSafe.  These changes can affect your ability to send mail.  In particular if your mail provider tells you to set your mail program so that it must be authenticated (login) to send mail, then you must make the following changes:

1. Open your email program and go to the account settings for the affected account

2. Locate the box related to "outgoing server requires authentication"

3. Check that box

4. The mail program should provide an option to use a specific username and password.  Enter your username and password in these boxes.
